Common Questions

When you, or someone you care about, is seriously harmed in an accident, you naturally have a lot of questions. Family members, friends, and coworkers, are quick to provide their best “legal” advice. They are often well-intentioned, but usually wrong. If you want accurate legal advice, an understanding of your rights, and confidence in how to handle your situation, give us a call for a free consultation.

For your convenience, we have provided basic answers to some commonly asked questions below.
Do I need an attorney?
  • Have you been involved in an accident and are unsure what to do next?
  • Are you wondering who will pay for your medical bills?
  • Are you wondering what your case is worth?
  • Are you feeling pressure to settle your case before your medical treatment and recovery are complete?
  • Do you feel like you have been unfairly dealt with by an insurance company?
  • Are you feeling overwhelmed?
  • Do you just want to move on with your life?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, we can help you. Feel free to contact us for a free consultation.

How will an attorney help?
Here are a few advantages of having an attorney working hard for you:
  • An attorney will take over the handling of your case. That means you will no longer have to deal with phone calls and letters from insurance companies trying to make you settle your claim. You will be able to focus on getting well, while your attorney takes care of everything else. This does not mean you will lose control or be without a voice. Your attorney works for you.
  • The legal system is complex. An attorney can help navigate your case through this system, making sure you meet all deadlines and clear procedural hurdles that could cause you to loose your right to compensation.
  • With a good attorney on your side, the insurance companies will be much more reasonable in their settlement offers because they know that you cannot be pushed around or buried by legal maneuvering.
  • Gain peace of mind during recovery. Let your attorney do the work for you while you focus on more important things at home.
How much will an attorney cost?
You pay nothing out of pocket.

Personal injury cases are typically handled on what is known as a "contingency fee" basis. This means that you don't pay anything up front and all attorney fees are paid from any settlement or judgement we obtain on your behalf. If for some reason we aren’t able to recover any money for you, then you don’t owe us any attorney fees. This arrangement allows every injured person to seek justice through our legal system regardless of whether they are rich or poor.
What is my responsibility?
Luckily, your responsibilities are relatively straight forward.
  • Be open and honest with your attorney about any details that may relate to your injury.
  • Provide any photographs, vehicle repair estimates, police reports, medical records, or other evidence you have in your possession.
  • Focus on getting healthy.
  • If a lawsuit is filed, there will questions for you to answer and possibly a few things to attend. We help you with everything.
Will I have to go to court?
Probably not. Many personal injury claims can be settled before even filing a lawsuit. In fact, having a reputable attorney on your side will actually increase the chance of an early settlement, because insurance companies take us seriously. If the insurance company still refuses to treat you fairly, we will discuss the pros and cons of moving forward with a lawsuit on your behalf, and will assist you throughout that process.
At the Law Office of Ryan K. Sawyer we strive to empower people who have been injured with the knowledge and advice they can use to make the best, well-informed decisions. Contact us to get a free personalized consultation.
